What's In a Name?

My husband, J, and I have been doing TTWD, aka domestic discipline, for almost three years.  Right now our lives are upside down, due to problems involving our children.  I'm looking for a way to be able to express myself and share a bit of our lives and still maintain a comfortable level of anonymity.  I know some bloggers have gone private for that reason.  Of course, I can't really do that from the outset, since no one knows me -- I'd be on a blogging island!

I've tried blogging before (twice) and each time ended up leaving because our situation got so busy and stressful, I couldn't keep up.  Those blogs had proper titles, and I gave myself nice monikers.  I'd start out fine and would eventually feel a (self-imposed) pressure begin to build that I had to churn out another post before too long or I'd lose the small readership I'd gained.  The other pressure I put on myself was to try my best to sound witty, intelligent, and articulate in order to keep myself in the company of such accomplished bloggers whose blogs were always so well written and conveyed all those characteristics.  The problem was that I would get so caught up in that effort and the extra time it took that it became too time consuming, especially as it made it more challenging to balance it out without losing the heart and soul of what it was I was trying to convey.

Oy vey.

So this time I'm trying it another way.  Bare bones generic.  I will do my best to focus on writing, first and foremost, for myself, and in so doing, I will hopefully discover things I might not otherwise have seen.  Of course, that doesn't mean I wouldn't appreciate comments  :)
Ah, well.  I guess it's all about priorities.  Who knows?  If this works, maybe the blog will eventually get a name (and me, too!).  I think I'll try again and let this blog develop at its own pace.

  1. Well welcome Unname...( okay I know you don't want pressure...but just ONE name? Like Sally and Simon...ya know ? Simple???).

I understand all of the above. Wanting to make every blog post perfect and making them plentiful. Often the pressure we put on ourselves as well at the criticism we have for ourselves is farrrrrrrrrrrrr greater than what others think.< See that wasn't a great sentence to at all!
I found personally, that if I just sat and did it, eventually the pieces came together. When I first started blogging it took me FOREVER to write a post. I also discovered that if I wrote it DURING a situations, the words flew out of me.
Anyway, WELCOME!! and we will be here whenever and however you need us. But you might want to put on a followers button so we can find you when you post again!
    Good luck!

  2. hi there Unnamed. ok so listen. this just isn't going to work. the NO NAME thing. on my blogroll i only go by the names of the folks who write because i can never remember the names of their blog, so you need a name. something sweet and soft. what about if Willie and I chose a name for you? i suppose if you didn't like it you could change it, but i'm just throwing it out there because you. need. a. name. :)

so. i started ttwd this past february and i know what you're saying about not being able to blog all the time and comment on others' blogs, too. we are an easy-going bunch and we just want you to keep us posted on how you are doing. there are so many of us, that we take turns on who's got more time to comment and such. lol i'm looking forward to next week because i have a few days to myself and i plan to do some much-needed reading and replying. so you are JUST FINE to make this new, generic blog not so new or generic. you feel free to just be YOU. we will be happy to come and visit and see how you're doing. :)

oh and i just write how i write. i don't use punctuation and grammar (altho i was an english minor) i just like the freeing feeling of not having to comply with what is expected. willie hates it but she loves me anyway. :)

you take care. come back and post. we will see you soon!
    hugs,
    maryanne.

    1. Both things are true. It does drive me batty, and I do love her anyway. My other suggestion outside of Sally was Sadie. Not sure why? I guess you wanted to keep things simple so I am now stuck on S names. We certainly have enough Sara(h)s...and I love them ALL! Why not use the names you had before?

OMG! We are so awful Maryanne! In one way we are saying no pressure and in another we are pressuring her to come up with a name! BUT when you think of it, Unnamed is a name...LOL

    2. we should do a name drive for Unnamed. :)

    3. Hi Maryanne! Thank you for commenting on my blog and welcoming me. A name drive, huh? Maybe eventually.........ya know, if my blog one day develops an identity...lol. And me? I think I need to take a little time before I'll find a fitting name.....but I love the fact that you girls wanna name me...it makes me feel special :-P

I will be visiting your blog, Maryanne. I'm looking forward to getting to know you!

Willie -- you may have hit upon something for down the road (I'll explain in an email!). And Willie -- I see you're following me! I don't think I had any followers in my other blogs. You are so sweet :)

  4. I have to agree with the others, you. Need. A . Name! :)

I soooooo get wanting to sound accomplished - that is why I don't comment on a lot of blogs. I'm such a moron!!! And one you read my blog, you'll realize that there is no way you could sound worse than me!!! ;)
But really - blog for yourself. Don't stress about the small stuff. Just type, check spelling and publish. You'll be amazed at how people don't care about the small stuff. (See, I'm not articulate either!)

Welcome to Blogland. I hope you find just how mellow, accepting and easy going we all are!

  6. Hi, there, generic masked lady! Welcome back to you and your husband, J!

Side note: I love you gals who have commented thus far, you know I do, but c'mon - really? Lol! Our friend launches her newest blog, bares her heart about why her previous blogs became inactive, shares her trepidation over blogging yet again, and you jump in to helpfully harass her over not naming it?!!! Gosh, pushy much? You just swoop right in, collect her up, and act like she has been our friend forever. See, this is why I love you! ;-)

Sweetie, you of the unnamed blog, my own blog is languishing on its own deserted island. The tumbleweeds are blowing around over there. I could have written the parts of this post regarding why your old blogs dried up, so I understand and truly commiserate with you. Hugs for that.

They say the third time is a charm ;-) so I hope you can give to your blog, and that it returns to you, everything you want and need for it to do. I'd say if you have been doing dd for three years through what sounds like some real challenges, you are charmed already. So, perhaps I'll call you Charmed, Charm for short, until you pick a name for yourself.

No matter what you decide to call yourself and your blog, I wish you the best of luck in making this blog work for you. You're already making friends here. :-)

    1. Irishey -- there's a name I recognize! I've seen you around and read many a comment you left on some friends' blogs. You're a very insightful person, and it comes across nicely in your writing. I hope you don't stay on that deserted island for long -- anything we can do to coax you off?

Third time's a charm, eh? That is what they say........hmmmm.....guess I'll find out! With such a warm welcome from all of you, I think it just may work -- I'm keeping my fingers crossed :-)

  7. Hi Honey - don't worry about all those others! They are all too good for their own good! (A little short type of name would help though....)

I'm Ami and a pickle. Nearly been blogging a year. Get chased by Willie and the rest of the gang quite a lot - for my own good of course. LOL!

Between us we have all sorts of kids that cause all sorts of problems - so no news there! But we are all good listeners!

I sometimes don't blog for ages, and then manage several quite quickly. Like laying eggs! Well, not quite, but you know what I mean. Am just about working myself up to have a good moan once again. But you know, you needn't feel you have to blog every day, or every week like some of the others around here. We all have different schedules and busy lives, and that would be far too demanding.

We will welcome you every time you feel you want to write a post - but we do need to know when you do it so we can cheer you on!

    Many hugs
    Ami

Thank you for your warm welcome -- it means so much to me. Gosh....you guys make me feel like one of you already :-)

As for letting you know when I write a post, I think I figured out how to enable "Followers"......I'm so technologically UNsavvy.....LOL.....Once I did it, though, I saw Willie on the page as a follower!

I'm looking forward to getting to know you better!

  8. Hi Unnamed! LOL...there are a whole bunch of cheeky women around here aren't there? I do think they need to be spanked, the lot of them. For my part perhaps I will just go with a new name each time which begins with U. How about Ursula? :)

I hope you feel the love in all the teasing. We are glad to have you here to write whenever you feel like it and without any pressure. There's so no need to keep up with the Jones' around here.

Off to add you to my list.

    1. Ah, Susie -- I feel I know you well! Don't get weirded out.....I've been following your blog since its inception and I just love how you write. I'll tell you something else.......shhhh.....don't let anyone else know.....you and I have exchanged comments on each other's blogs in the past.....maybe one day I'll make the big reveal...LOL...

Thank you for coming here and joining the ladies in welcoming me.

Ursula? Sure, why not....I'll answer pretty much to anything. Eventually, I'm sure I'll find a suitable name. I'm thinking I should give my blog (and myself) ample time to develop our identities.....then, who knows? Maybe a contest to name us? LOL

Thank you so kindly for adding me to your list. I'm all caught up with your blog, as I visit it regularly. Looking forward to reading more :-)

  9. Hi Unnamed!

I kind of like your stance on the name thing, lol! It reminds me of "He who must not be named" or "The artist formerly known as Prince" - and if it helps take off any perceived pressure, then I say go for it!

It can take some time to find your groove here. I’ve learned to write only when I’ve got something to say – or something to process; I don't have a deadline in mind or a number per month. Some months are full, some months are light, and that’s ok - my friends are there when I get back - although I’ve learned that they might worry about me if it’s been too long. (awwww)

Blogland is a place to process what you are feeling and what you are experiencing, with the help and support of others. They can offer advice, sympathy, cheer you on, laugh alongside you – whatever it is you need, they are there.

So I can’t help but wonder if I read either of your other blogs – like “have we met before?”. But whether we have or have not, I want to say Welcome and Welcome Back!

I look forward to getting to know you better – at your pace.

    :) Cali

    1. Hi Cali!

"It can take some time to find your groove here."

Hey, that made me think of the movie, 'How Stella Got Her Groove Back" -- that could be a possibility for the name of my blog, and I could be Stella...LOL

Thank you for commenting and also for your understanding and patience. That just frees me up to go at whatever pace I feel most comfortable.

I wasn't aware of your blog, but I will be hopping over there to check it out. I look forward to getting to know you better, too :)

  10. Hi Unnamed,

Welcome... or welcome back in this case! :0) I don't really have much advice to offer, I am pretty new to blogging.. But you got tons of advice from all the ladies above, so you probably are on advice overload already anyway. I just wanted to say hi and that you will have more support than you ever dreamed of (I think you already found that out!) so no worries, hope you have fun and get what YOU need.

    Lots of luck!!! :0)

    2. Hello again unnamed. First, my blog is www.georgeshangar.blogspot.com and my email is george.k0251@gmail.com.

I have only been blogging since May. I started as an anonymous lurker and then Willie encouraged me to create a blog name. I chose George K because of the movie North By Northwest. Cary Grant was mistaken to be George Kaplan and since George K was a fictional character made up by the Government, I thought it appropriate to use as my blog name (I also liked the character). I chose to name my blog georgeshangar because I am a professional corporate pilot.

My bride, Nina, and I have actually been married for 37 years as of this Nov 6th, so I guess I need to update my information! We have two grown daughters and are empty nesters. Our oldest daughter just got married last month so we are looking forward to becoming grandparents!

I am the spanko in the family. One night about 25 years ago I ask Nina to spank me and wow was I nervous! She is very vanilla, but she is also a great sport. She didn't understand why I wanted to be spanked (and I doubt anyone who is not of this persuasion really does) but was agreeable and has over the years become a very good spanker!

We are not a DD couple nor are we into punishment spankings. We enjoy fun spankings and also stress relief spankings (mostly my stress but sometimes for her).

I really have enjoyed the folks here in this community and they have made me feel like a part of the family. I am glad that you decided to try again and I look forward to following your blog and also us getting to know each other.

      Blessings and Hugs,
      George
